Regent Brass have always been proud of ‘Daring to be Different’, and in that spirit, we aim to provide a platform for all composers writing music for brass band to have new and innovative works performed.
Young Composer In Residence
In 2022 we launched our Young Composer In Residence Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to provide a foundation for young, up and coming composers to test out their new works with the band and from there, provide the band with World Premiere performances of new works for our audiences, and in the longer term, works for brass band which can be presented at competitions and larger events.
In 2022, we were delighted to welcome Franklin Onyesso as our first Regent Brass Young Composer In Residence. Franklin is an undergraduate composition student at the Royal Academy of Music and he has already produced multiple works for the band, the first of which was premiered at our summer concert at Westminster Abbey gardens in August, 2022.
Adopt A Creator 2022
In 2022, jointly with the Camden Youth Brass Band, Regent joined the Making Music ‘Adopt a Music Creator’ scheme which allows young creators to connect with the musical ensembles on exciting projects. We were paired with the up and coming composer Robin Fielder who wrote Castle In The Sky for the two bands to jointly perform, which we did in a Friday evening concert at Regent Hall on Oxford Street. A recording from the concert was then broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in March 2024
