Regent Brass hosts the world premiere of Ink Garden

Brent Civic Centre | Thursday 27th June, 7pm (doors 6.30pm)

Regent Brass is delighted to be hosting the world premiere of Ink Garden, a new piece for brass band by award-winning composer Raymond Yiu.

Ink Garden takes its title from an eponymous collection of Chinese calligraphy and graphics (first published in 1606) and is a tribute to the late Richard Rodney Bennett (1936-2012), drawing inspiration from one of Bennett’s unpublished jazz songs Goodbye for Now (1995).

Written for Regent Brass and made possible thanks to grant funding from the BBC Performing Arts Fund and PRS for Music Foundation, the world premiere of Ink Garden will be performed by Regent Brass, London and Southern Counties Brass Band Champions 2013, alongside sister ensemble Regent Community Brass, who will celebrate their first anniversary at this event.

Composer Raymond Yiu, whose debut work for brass band this is, said “Ink Garden was one of the most challenging and exciting projects that I have ever undertaken” and hopes that the piece will raise other composers’ interest in writing for brass band.

The concert will take place from 7pm on Thursday 27th June at the new Brent Civic Centre in Wembley. Alongside Ink Garden, the event will feature a varied programme of music performed by the two Regent bands, as well as Brent Concert Band and Brent Junior Singers.
