Regent return to the Spring Festival for the first time in many years. Having accepted invite to compete in the Senior Trophy, the band have been working hard on the set test, Frank Wright’s arrangement of Berlioz’ Judges of the Secret Court since our appearance in the London and Southern Counties area championships.
Working with both Paul Archibald, and Nicholas Thompson, it certainly has been an interesting perspective on this work from the two very experienced orchestral trumpeters! We extend our thanks to Nicholas for stepping in for Paul when he was busy with other commitments and look forward to having seeing him again soon in the bandroom.
This contest also sees the welcome return of an “old face” :), Paul Fensom returns to help us out, not waving 1 stick, but 2 sticks having taken up the challenge of playing timpani after departure of our regular player, Edward Parker. Another stand-in on percussion, making his contest debut with the band is Rod Thomas, principal cornet player Williams’ Dad, which is providing much amusement to Will!
This contest sees the sad departure of one or two players, more details on this in due course, with news on replacements and vacancies.
