The Regent Brass Bands Set for a Day at the Races!

After much preparation from both Regent Brass and Regent Community Brass, both bands have been selected to represent London & Southern Counties at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain! Following the Regional contest, held in Stevenage on Sunday March 19th, Regent Brass placed 2nd in ‘Section 1’ whilst Regent Community Brass took the coveted 1st place in ‘Section 4’! Regional Contest Update

Sunday March 16th saw both Regent Brass and Regent Community Band travel to the Gordon Craig Leisure Centre in Stevenage to participate in their respective sections of the London and Southern Counties area qualifiers for the Brass Band National Finals. Competing in the fourth section, Regent Community band, conducted by John Holland had to tackle ‘Three Spanish Impressions for Brass Band’ by Alan Fernie.  Drawn to play 11th out of 20 competing bands, RCB made an impression on the adjudicators…

Scottish Open 2013

On Friday 22nd November, Regent Brass headed up to Perth for the third time to compete at the Scottish Open Brass Band Championships. This year, the set work was the demanding “Contest Music” by Wilfred Heaton; a piece which was originally considered unplayable when first written! After travelling up, the band gave the work a run-out at an open rehearsal hosted by  the Tullis Russell Mills Band. This also saw the Tullis Russell Intermediate Band give an exciting performance of Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s “Dark Side of the Moon” ahead…

SCABA Autumn Contest

Regent Community Brass once again made the trip down to The Hawth theatre in Crawley on Sunday 29th September to perform at the SCABA Autumn Contest. At this competition, bands had to play an “Own-choice” test piece in their relevant section, for which the band chose to perform Simon Dobson’s atmospheric “Penlee”, written in memory of the 1981 Cornish lifeboat disaster.
