Regent Brass have always been proud of ‘Daring to be different’, and in that spirit, in 2022 we launched the ‘Adopt a Composer’ scheme. The aim of the scheme is to provide a foundation for young, up and coming composers to test out their new works with the band and from there, provide the band with World Premiere performances of new works for our audiences, and in the longer term, works for brass band which can be presented at competitions and larger events.
In 2022, we were delighted to welcome Franklin Onyesso as our first Regent Brass composer on the scheme. Franklin is an A Level student at St Ignatius College, Enfield and he has already produced two new works for the band, the first of which was premiered at our summer concert at Westminster Abbey gardens in August, 2022.
Earlier this year Regent Brass took this relationship to the next level by joining with Making Music and their ‘Adopt a Music Creator’ scheme, allowing more young composers to connect with the band and work with us on new compositions. We are delighted that, as a result of this scheme, we have been paired with up and coming composer Robin Fielder and we look forward to working with her throughout the year.
